It didn’t take long for the Jones County Greyhounds to zero in on their next head football coach after Justin Rogers left for Colquitt County earlier this week.

Barry Veal, Jones County athletic director, confirmed to the Telegraph that current Warner Robins head football coach Mike Chastain will be presented to the school board Friday morning.

School board approval means Jones County can move forward on hiring him as the next Greyhounds head coach.

Chastain took over at Warner Robins in 2016. He’s lead the Demons to a 29-12 record and a pair of state title game appearances, including a loss to Bainbridge in triple overtime to cap last season.

The Demons will have to search for a new head coach if Chastain’s hire is approved as expected.

Chastain could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.
