Two shots separate top three teams in area tournament
Only two shots separated the top three teams in the Class A Private Area 3 tournament, one of the closest finishes in GHSA play.
Holy Innocents shot a 306, with Strong Rock Christian at 308 and Mount Vernon Christian at 309 at Heritage Golf Links. All three teams qualify for the state tournament.
Holy Innocents’ was led by Bailey Means at 75 and Owen Malcolm at 76. Jeff Klopfenstein shot 77 and Nick Reddy had a 78.
Strong Rock got a 75 from Logan Perkins, a pair of 77s from Nathan Sheets and Ashby Schwendinger, and a 78 from Aaron Schwendinger.
Mount Vernon had two 75s from Ethan Mangum and Jacob Kephart. Will Tillett shot 76 and Parker Smith and John Slade each had 82s.
Charlie Reeves of Eagle’s Landing Christian and Drew Tanner of Landmark Christian qualified as individuals.
Class A Private
Area 2 boys: Owen Roberts shot 72 to help Athens Academy place first. Charlie Ruhl added a 77 for the Spartans. Also qualifying for the state tournament was Price Avenue Christian, led by Will Kahlstorf’s 72, and George Walton Academy. Michael Weidner of Tallulah Falls and Jake Brown of Hebron Christian qualified as individuals.
Area 3 girls: Emma King shot 88 to help Holy Innocents’ win the title. Landmark Christian and Strong Rock Christian also qualified. Meghna Grover of Atlanta International and Jasmine Everett of Our Lady of Mercy qualified as individuals.
Area 4 boys: Medalst Parker Rostowsky shot 70 and brother Conner Rostowsky shot 74 to help Mt. Paran Christian shoot 297 and win the tournament. Darlton got a 71 from Peter Hinnant and finished second. Mt. Pisgah, led by Connor McKinnon’s 71, was the third qualifier. Individual qualifiers were Robert Howard of North Cobb Christian and Hardin Chambless of Christian Heritage.
Area 4 girls: Sophia Kalusche shot 75 to push Darlington to the title. Mt. Pisgah got an 88 from Merritt Miller and finished second. King’s Ridge also qualified. Makenzie Mitchell of Christian Heritage advanced as an individual.
Class A Public
Area 1 boys: Seminole County, Hawkinsville and Schley County all qualified for state. Hunter Dokey of Hawkinsville was medalist with a 77. Avery Adams of Pelham qualified as an individual.
Area 1 girls: Macy Williams was medalist and helped Seminole County finish first. Other state qualifiers were Schley County and Miller County.
