Top 10 teams stay active over the holiday break

As we begin our transition into basketball, here’s a look at the what some of the teams in the Top 10 are doing during the holiday break.

No. 1 Greenforest Christian, the defending state champion downed North Clayton 68-40 this Tuesday and is scheduled to participate in the Tucker Holiday Shootout vs. Southwest DeKalb (No. 6 in Class AAAA), and Wednesday, Dec. 28 … No. 2 St. Francis will try to remain undefeated headed into region play when the Knights participate in the Tournament of Champions at Wheeler, Dec. 28-30. Participating teams include No. 7 Whitefield Academy, Wheeler, Pebblebrook, Kell, South Cobb, Douglas County, Miller Grove, Grayson, Norcross and Columbia. Out-of-state participants include Jefferson and Lincoln of Brooklyn, New York, Miami Christian, John Marshall of Virginia, Velma Jackson of Mississippi and Scotlandville of Louisiana … No. 3 SACA will head down to Florida for the West Palm Beach Classic, Dec. 28-30.

No. 1 Calhoun County and No. 10 Montgomery County will hook up tonight in a non-region battle at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon.

No. 8 Taylor County is staying busy. The Vikings downed No. 9 Terrell County, 49-41, in the Class A Power Ratings Classic in Albany on Dec. 21, but was upset by unranked Macon County, 67-35, the next night. Taylor lost to Class AA Dublin, 45-43, last night in the Wilkinson County Holiday Classic and is scheduled to face Class AAA Savannah tonight.
