Softball: King’s pitching, clutch hitting lead North Forsyth past South Forsyth

For a night, North Forsyth softball found itself again.

Reeling after three straight losses in region play, the Lady Raiders got a much-needed boost Tuesday night in a 3-0 victory against South Forsyth at home in a Region 5-7A game.

Considering the opponent and time of season, North pitcher Sara King had arguably her finest performance of the season, stymieing the Lady War Eagles over seven complete innings.

King escaped trouble early, navigating out of bases-loaded jams in the first and third innings, but the Morehead State commit got better as the game went on, striking out the side in the sixth and seventh innings. King scattered five hits and five walks while striking out seven.

And North got the clutch hitting that has eluded it so often against the region’s top contenders. Amber Jones and Abby Martin each had two-out RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth to break open a scoreless game, while Mallorie Black added a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth for insurance.

Addie Harris also had a double for North (10-7, 5-6).

Despite the Lady Raiders’ inconsistencies this season, they went home assured of a spot in the state playoffs for the second straight year. And after defeating South, they left open the mathematical possibility of improving its playoff seeding with four games left in the region schedule.
