Round 2 of the Class AAAAAA football playoffs goes to Region 1.

The powerhouse region, made up of five teams scattered across middle and south Georgia, got all four of its playoff teams into the second round but was matched up on Friday with Region 5, which also went 4-0 in the first round.

Final score: 3-1, in favor of Region 1.

– Top-ranked Valdosta had little trouble with Northgate in a 35-0 win and has outscored its two playoff opponents 104-14.

– Fifth-ranked Northside-Warner Robins held an opponent to 14 points or less for the 11th time this season, beating Hughes 38-14. Northside is the only No. 2 seed remaining.

– Unranked Coffee built a 42-20 lead and held on for a 42-34 victory over No. 7 Alexander to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008. Coffee is the only No. 4 seed remaining.

– The only Region 5 winner was third-ranked Mays, which rallied from a 22-8 halftime deficit to beat No. 8 Lee County 35-22.

Region 1 is the only Class AAAAAA region with three teams remaining.

Two other regions (4-AAAAAA and 6-AAAAAA) put three teams in the second round.

– Region 4 went 2-1, with No. 4 Tucker beating No. 6 Harrison 23-7 and Stephenson winning 20-6 against Dacula, knocking out the last surviving Region 8 team. Stephenson is the only No. 3 seed remaining. The other Region 4 team, Lovejoy, put up a good fight but lost to second-ranked Dalton 24-14.

– Dalton was the only one of the three Region 6 teams to survive. Allatoona lost to Glynn Academy 47-7 in a rematch of last year’s Class AAAAA championship game, which Allatoona won 10-6. Harrison, the region’s No. 2 seed, was knocked out by Tucker.

So Regions 1 and 4 will provide five of the eight teams playing in next week’s quarterfinals. The other three teams are region champions Glynn Academy (Region 2), Mays (Region 5) and Dalton (Region 6).

Second-round scores:

Tucker 23, Harrison 7

Mays 35, Lee County 22

Glynn Academy 47, Allatoona 7

Northside-Warner Robins 38, Hughes 10

Stephenson 20, Dacula 6

Valdosta 35, Northgate 0

Dalton 24, Lovejoy 14

Coffee 42, Alexander 34

Quarterfinal matchups:

(R4 #1) Tucker at (R5 #1) Mays at Lakewood Stadium

(R1 #2) Northside-Warner Robins at (R2 #1) Glynn Academy

(R4 #3) Stephenson at (R1 #1) Valdosta

(R1 #4) Coffee at (R6 #1) Dalton

Posted the following on another vent, works here as well:

Congrates out to them Jaguars of Stephenson, may the doubters hesitate. A special shout out to Stephenson long time and most rabbit poster JAB … welcome to the quarters. Get the JAB mobile gas and ready for a black Friday trip to south GA and bring it back to metro ATL, region 4 and DeKalb. Tough matchup next week, but the region and the county will be cheering Stephenson on.

SportsNut, great season for your wildcats, there where doubters and naysayers throughout the season, but once again, the Wildcats REPESENTED, and will be back to be a major player in 2017. Trust, Tucker knows and welcome the rivalry … it has made both programs better. I just wonder, if the game was played at 12 Oaks, what the outcome might have been?

As for Tucker’s performance against Harrison, we got to clean up the offensive miss cues, there were too many opportunities to finish the Hoyas early and often, this includes execution and play calling. I have been critical of Tucker’s defense the last couple of years, but this 2016 version, is something special. Tucker’s front seven, is nothing to be played with, no matter the opponents offensive scheme and continue to be rated as the best in 6A. I lose count of the Tigers sacks, this keep Harrison’s good QB under pressure the entire game. Now that’s the Tucker defense of the past!

It’s now the SWAT against DEKALB, Lakewood or Halliford this is going to be speed against speed, athlete against athlete, HS football fans we are in for a post-Thanksgiving threat and if history serve us between these two programs, then it will more likely come down to the final play.

“WE ARE TUCKER” – Another Quarter Final Appearance!!!

@TheRealTHS

I have to go with Tucker on this one. Not because I know you TheRealTHS, but just being real. Tucker seems to be getting stronger as the year goes on. They whipped my Jags fair and square. I could revert to smack talk, but I’ll keep it real this time. Just dont get caught slippin and Tucker will over-match Mays.

@Eric1961. Mays should have beat NSWR in that championship game. But it was the inability to stop the NSWR qb in the second half, that cost Mays the title.

Mays have addressed weakness that cost them a state title two years ago. They now have a kicking game that you need for the playoffs.

Good game by my Cats but we were just not enough combined with our mistakes and coaching decisions. Hats off to Dalton. They did enough to win.

Great elite 8 this year! Stephenson beat the Valdosta. THEY ARE NOT THE BEST TEAM IN 6A. Idk why ppl are on them so heavy but Stephenson please beat them because they are overrated. There good but not the number 1 team in my opinion.

Tucker we got mays! We beat them the last 5 times we played so let’s make it 6 in a row?

Congrats Tucker and Stephenson for showing why Defense wins games.

Good showing by Lovejoy as well. Was hoping you Cats would have pulled it out up there in Dalton, but at least you debunked that ridiculous 27 point spread. You have an exciting young team. They will bring more noise next year!

Now JAGs go down there in SoGA and turn this thing on its head. You will be the underdog, but that’s what they called you for the last 2 weeks and you proved them wrong…………….Do it again!!!

Tucker and Mays will be a doozy! This will be a battle of Big Boy Defenses and quick scoring capabilities.

Cant wait for this one………………….Game of the Week for sure!

Mays has shown for weeks now that they can spot anyone 20+ points and then cut them down like they just did to Lee.

I heard that Tucker sacked the Harrison QB 199 times (at least that’s what he probably thought). The Mays QB is better.

Game on Folks!!
