Pope High School third baseman Josh Lowe drafted by Rays – Atlanta Journal Constitution
The Tampa Bay Rays had Georgia on their mind on Thursday night when they drafted Pope High School infielder Josh Lowe with the 13rd overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft.
Lowe hit .391 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs en route to a Class AAAAAA state final appearance for the Greyhounds. He also did some damage on the mound, registering six saves while striking out 33 batters in 22 innings of work. Lowe was named the 2015-16 Gatorade Georgia Baseball Player of the Year for his efforts.
Lowe already had plans to play baseball in the Sunshine State, as he had previously signed to play collegiately at Florida State.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Lowe comes from a baseball family. His father, David Lowe, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 1986 MLB draft. His older brother, Nathaniel, is a first baseman at Mississippi State.
