Nine local golfers earn their way to all-state team – Columbus Ledger-Enquirer
Nine local golfers were named to the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association all-state team, it was announced Thursday.
Columbus’ Nolan Miller and Ben Carr made the Class 5A boys first team.
Northside’s Isabel Rijos and Columbus’ Amy Clark made the 5A girls first team. Columbus’ Mary Catherine McDaniel and Harris County’s Chloe Wegienka made honorable mention.
Brookstone’s Evans Copeland and William Reaves made the Class A boys first team. Brookstone’s Uma Alappan made girls honorable mention.
The GHSGCA Senior All-Star tournament was held Tuesday through Thursday at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie.
The South team, which included Rijos and Clark as well as Columbus boys coach Chris Parker. won 19.5 to 10.5.
In fourball matches on Wednesday, Rijos teamed up with Union Grove’s Hannah Hasaway to win 4&3. Clark and Northgate’s Jessica Houk lost 4&3.
In singles matches on Thursday, Clark beat Buford’s Breezy Walton 6&4. Rijos lost to Duluth’s Jordyn Sims 2&1.
