Woodstock was the big winner on Friday with its 34-23 victory over eighth-ranked Lassiter. Woodstock plays Cherokee in a game next week that probably gives the winner at top-two finish in the region and a chance to challenge No. 1 Roswell in Region 4.

Here is how the regions look after Friday.

Region 1 – No surprises: No. 7 Colquitt County routed Camden County 56-10, and No. 6 Lowndes beat Tift Couty 38-17. Colquitt and Lowndes meet on Oct. 28 in Moultrie, likely for the title.

Region 2 – Westlake (4-3, 2-0) is the only unbeaten team in region play after a 10-7 victory over Pebblebrook (4-3, 1-1) and East Coweta’s win over Wheeler (3-4, 1-1). Westlake is aiming for its third straight region title in somewhat of a rebuilding year.

Region 3 – Hillgrove (d. Marietta 30-7) and 10th-ranked North Cobb (d. North Paulding 42-10) got decisive wins that set them up to challenge fourth-ranked McEachern for the region title. The three front-runners are 2-0 in the region. Expect Marietta and North Paulding now to battle for the fourth and final playoff berth.

Region 4 – Woodstock (5-2, 2-0) upset No. 8 Lassiter 34-23 and is in a three-way tie for first with No. 1 Roswell (7-0, 2-0) and Cherokee (4-3, 2-0). Now Lassiter (5-2, 0-2), despite its 5-0 start, could be fighting with Etowah and Walton just to make the playoffs. The Cherokee-Woodstock game next week will be a big one.

Region 5 – Lambert’s 48-40 victory over North Forsyth leaves two unbeaten teams in region play. West Forsyth (6-1, 2-0), a 24-7 winner over Forsyth Central, is the other. Lambert is 4-3, 2-0. Lambert, which has never won a region title, plays at West Forsyth next week.

Region 6 – Mountain View (7-1, 3-1) got a big win over Collins Hill 24-21. That just about locks up the Bears’ first-ever playoff berth. Second ranked Mill Creek (d. Peachtree Ridge 31-12) and North Gwinnett (d. Duluth 45-14) also won as expected. Mill Creek can clinch the region title with a win over Mountain View next week.

Region 7 – Brookwood (5-2, 3-0) and Norcross (7-0, 3-0) remained the unbeaten in region play. Brookwood beat Central Gwinnett 55-45. Norcross pounded Lakeside 42-10. Brookwood plays Parkview (5-2, 2-1) next week. A win there would set up a showdown with Norcross the next week.

Region 8 – There’s probably no stopping No. 3 Grayson (6-1, 3-0) in the region now. The Rams beat second-place Archer 38-0.
