Football, FourGHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We’ll report from a different head coach each day.

Phil Ironside, Hillgrove

1. What is the most memorable game you’ve been a part of as a player or coach? “Georgia Southern had beaten Middle Tennessee two times in 1989. The first of those two games was during Hurricane Hugo. They beat us 26-0. We thought the hurricane slowed us down. They beat us 49-3 the next time on a beautiful sunny day. They came in to Murfreesboro in 1990 ranked No. 1. We were able to find a way to win.” [Ironside was a second-year starter and all-conference quarterback in 1990.]

2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? “Phil Jones, former Winder-Barrow and Shorter University coach. He is a man of God, and what he leaves with young men is everlasting.”

3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? “Can’t play dead in a Western.”

4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? “For years football coaches have said they don’t see how basketball coaches take all this AAU stuff. We have allowed 7-on-7 during the winter and spring to become our AAU. The GHSA needs to either allow us to coach our kids or ban it altogether. All it has become is a recruiting nightmare.”

Another good response to question 2! Any sensible coach would (or should) want their son to play for a “man of God” and would give his son a fair chance to play ANY POSITION” dictated by his talent! Nobody plays football forever, life goes on after football!!
