Pickens County at North Forsyth

When, where: Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Raider Valley in Coal Mountain.

Records, rankings: Pickens is 1-2 and unranked in Class 4A; North is 2-1 and unranked in Class 7A.

Series record: Tied 3-3.

Last meeting: Pickens won 41-0 in 2001.

What to know: A 3-1 start isn’t out of the question for North, and it would give them a game up on last year’s win total just four games into the season—a signal that Robert Craft’s high-speed, high-powered show has translated well at Coal Mountain.

The Raiders will hope to stay hot after coming out of a bye week, and before the break they showcased plenty of that tempo. Quarterback Ben Bales has entered the elite quarterback discussion in the county, and Simon Holcomb is currently 10th in the entire state in receiving yards; despite his diminutive stature, Holcomb continues to dominate defenses, even in a completely different system than he was in the past.

Pickens is a formidable opponent but has struggled offensively in recent weeks, scoring just 10 points against Pepperell and eight against North Hall. Meanwhile, North had 34 and 31 points in its two victories.
