Class AAAAA blog: Carrollton, Riverwood nail down titles
No. 2 Carrollton officially wrapped up the Region 7 championship on Friday, its first since 2011, and Riverwood secured its first region title in school history.
Carrollton (9-0, 7-0) secured first place with a 48-14 win over Paulding County. Carrollton will win the region title even if it loses the season finale to Hiram based in previous wins over Rome and Kell, who each have one region loss.
Carrollton had no trouble with Paulding County, racing to a 34-7 halftime lead before easing off the gas. The Trojans scored touchdowns on their first five possessions
The Trojans were led by Brandon Marenco, who run 10 times for 176 yards and one touchdown, and Shyquan Johnson, who rushed nine times for 164 yards and one touchdown. Kodee Brewer added two first-half touchdowns. Quarterback Myles Morris completed 9 of 10 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Melvin Edwards and Ace Williamson.
Riverwood (9-0) defeated Grady 28-7 to claim the Region 6 championship. The Raiders have a game remaining against Maynard Jackson, but will finish first regardless of the outcome. Riverwood has already beaten Decatur, the only other one-loss team in the league.
Riverwood had not won a region championship since it began playing football in 1971. The Raiders are 9-0 for the first time in school history.

Buford coasts past Walnut Grove: The No. 1 Wolves (9-0) set up a showdown with Clarke Central for the Region 8 championship with an easy 49-0 over Walnut Grove. Buford played a lot of people and led 42-0 at the half.
LaFrance passes Kell past Hiram: Quarterback Corbin LaFrance threw two touchdown passes, one to Jaylon Brown and one to Jamal Hill, and beat Hiram 27-7. The Longhorns (7-2) also got a kickoff reurn from Xavier Parris.
Rome keeps rolling: The No. 6-ranked Wolves turned away Villa Rica 38-6, with running back Ahijah Blackwell scoring three of his four touchdowns in the first quarter.
Veterans holds off Thomas County Central: Veterans (8-1) scored late on a 31-yard pass from Blake Ethridge to Nate Boehm and added a Daniel Gibbs field goal to defeat the Yellow Jackets 27-21. Veterans will play Warner Robins for the region title on Friday.
