Best player in school history: Region 5-A teams

Only two alumni of the current Region 5-A have gone on to play in the NFL. Both went to Wesleyan, and both were members of Super Bowl teams. They are David Andrews (2016 New England Patriots) and Chad Hall (2012 San Francisco 49ers).
Andrews is the Patriots’ starting center, and his team won the Super Bowl, as Falcons fans might remember. He was the better high school player, a two-time first-team all-state pick who started on both lines of scrimmage.
Was Andrews then Wesleyan’s best-ever player? Maybe not.

Andrews had a classmate named Kyle Karempelis, who joined Andrews at Georgia, albeit as a walk-on. The pair led Wesleyan to the Class A title in 2008. Karempelis was a three-time first-team all-state player. He rushed for 5,298 yards and caught 73 passes for 946 yards – giving him 6,044 yards from scrimmage. He scored 90 touchdowns, exactly 30 each of his last three seasons.
Our choice is still Andrews, though.
But was Andrews the best-ever player from a current Region 5-A school?
His resume is the most complete, but the most important criterion is high school production.
Eagle’s Landing Christian has won three state titles this decade. The other 5-A schools combined have won one.
The player that put ELCA on the map more than any other was RB/LB Keyante Green, star of the 2012 and first ELCA title team. A two-way starter, Green had 4,800 career rushing yards and scored 92 touchdowns. On defense, he had 343 career tackles. He started on both sides of the ball all four years. In that time, ELCA was 45-7. Green would play at Purdue.
“I realize there are some good ones,” ELCA coach Jonathan Gess said, “but I think Keyante was one of the greatest high school football players in single A history.”
