Forsyth Central used help from four errors to top North Forsyth 6-4 Wednesday at Coal Mountain.

The game started with both teams having trouble getting hits with men in scoring position. Central loaded the bases with only one out in the top of the first but couldn’t capitalize. North got two on in the bottom of the second but left them stranded.

It wasn’t until the third when the Bulldogs finally capitalized. With runners on second and third and one out, Daniel Henderson beat out a tough chopper to second to give Central a 1-0 lead. Jacob Holton followed with a seeing-eye single to plate another run.

Then Central got some help. North committed back to back errors to start the top of the fourth to put two on with no outs. North starting pitcher Tyler Fairchild promptly got two outs, but Luke Sutko poked a blooping single to increase the lead to 3-0.

But just like Central, North began to put together some hits. In the bottom of the fourth, North loaded the bases with only one out and took advantage. The Raiders brought four runners home, highlighted by a two out, two-run double by junior catcher Colin Sanders. North suddenly led, 4-3.

“We knew we needed to get something going following their inning,” Central head coach Kevin McCollum said.

Central had to wait for Fairchild leave the game first. Fairchild kept the Bulldogs’ lineup at bay for the most part. But once he came out things changed. With a runner on first, Sutko sent a 1-2 changeup to straight away centerfield for a homer that gave Central the lead again.

Sutko finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs.

“He’s an amazing batter,” McCollum said, “but so are a bunch of our guys.”

Central turned to Alex Andrew in relief to secure the win. Andrew allowed just one walk and one hit over 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

“He’s proven himself as he’s been mostly our closer these past two years,” McCollum said. “We asked for a little bit more than we usually do but he stepped up, and played really well.”

With the win, Central improved to 11-10 overall and 3-5 in Region 5-7A, just a game behind South Forsyth and West Forsyth.

“I know we’re a really good ball club, but we haven’t played to our potential,” McCollum said. “Tonight showed us we’re able to heavily produce runs when we need them.”

North fell to 8-12 overall and 1-7 in region.
