AA blog: Week 10’s top weekend games

Let’s take a look at the top Class AA boys and girls games taking place this weekend.


A-Public’s No. 2 Hancock Central at No. 9 Washington County, 7 p.m., Saturday: This game represents the last non-region game for the Golden Hawks (15-5) of the regular season. They will be looking to avenge their loss earlier in the season to Hancock Central, when the Bulldogs beat them 78-59. Sophomore Kejuan Bloodshaw led the team with 18 points in the losing effort. On the season, senior Jamarius Dixon leads the team with 14.4 points, seven boards and 1.9 steals, followed by junior Jarden Maze (9.8 points, 3.1 boards, 3.2 dimes, 1.9 steals). They are part of a well-balanced scoring attack that includes seniors Jawan Dukes (9.1 points) and Ivory Williams (8.3 points) and Bloodshaw (8.2 points). The Golden Hawks are in second place in Region 3 behind Northeast-Macon with an 8-1 record to Northeast’s 9-1. The Bulldogs are riding an eight-game win streak but play Warren County (5-12) the day before Washington County.


No. 1 Dodge County at No. 8 Washington County, 6 p.m., Tuesday: The top-ranked Lady Indians beat the eighth-ranked Lady Golden Hawks 73-64 at home on Dec. 18. Now it’s the Lady Golden Hawks’ turn to host and seek revenge. Dodge County’s only blemish this season is a 54-33 loss to Wayne County on Dec. 14. They are 19-1, 10-0 in Region 3. They are led by senior guard-forward Destanee Wright, who is averaging 21.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 steals, and senior wing Europe Brown (18 points, 3.1 steals). The Lady Indians are gunning for their first state title since 1987, when they won AAA. The Lady Golden Hawks, which won AAA in 2011 for their last title, are led by sophomore Miracle Parker (18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.7 steals) and junior Destinee Ellison (17.2 points, 2.6 steals).
